| The 50 metre set will be a full-size replica of the inside of a World War 2 uboat, complete with control room and engines with moving pistons. The set will be built on Avalon’s sound stage with portions of it being built in a “wet set” so that later in the film there can be three feet of water through the submarine. The uboat will be dressed like a house-truck from the 80s, as the submarine was supposedly rebuilt by a hippy commune. It will therefore have things like stained glass mobiles, rainbows and crystals hanging from the ceiling. The set is like a character in the movie, and a great deal of the sense of fear will be created by this claustrophobic space and the frightening creaking and grinding sounds that a submarine stranded underwater would produce. |
