Fred Renata and Jeff Simmonds first collaborated in 1980 at a Sweetwaters Music Festival. Jeff played banjo. Fred played dobro. Since then Fred has worked on dozens of projects as director of photography, from feature films (Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Fracture, Magik and Rose), televsion series (Doves of War, Hard Out, Street Legal), shorts (Tumanako Springs, The Devil You Meet), music videos and advertisements. Fred is one of New Zealand’s most respected cinematographers.
